Links, Help, SEO
Tune into any conversation lately on SEO and you’ll hear experts argue about link building. Some argue it’s still a tried and true method to increasing SEO, while others will say search engine algorithms are becoming sophisticated enough to throw out pages laden with links, therefore you shouldn’t bother with it at all. It can be difficult to determine who is right in this fight, so better to be safe than sorry. While link building can be costly, in many cases there are things you can do implement this SEO strategy and not break the bank.
The easiest way to implement a link-building strategy is to start with internal links on your page. These links not only make your site look professional, but they also guide visitors through your site easily. Studies have shown that visitors on sites that have internal links spend more time browsing through pages compared to sites without links.
More importantly, for SEO purposes internal linking catches the attention of search engines. Search engine bots or spiders are not able to sort through menu items and lengthy text; however they do pick up on internal links. You can cross reference various pages in your site back to each other to build the links and thus SEO.
So what site pages should you cross reference?
-Home Page- Your home page should have the most links as this is the “home base” of your site. Visitors will refer back to your homepage after looking at other pages; therefore you can send them into another area of your site through those home links.
-Blog- Keeping content fresh is key to increasing SEO, so it’s important to have a blog. You can use your blog page or pages to expand on your site’s products/services, and it's a great way to link to other pages on your site.
-FAQs- By setting up a FAQ page, not only are you able to cross-reference back to other site pages, but you have an opportunity to plug in keywords and phrases that yield higher SEO.
-Footers- Links don’t have to be buried in content, having links in the footer will help visitors navigate your site, as well as grab the attention of search engines.
So start looking for opportunities to use internal links on your site. It may be just what the search engines need to boost your SEO.
